How is the Salkantay Trek ?
This is a remote and ancient footpath in the same region of the Inca trail, but less traveled and with more spectacular views. NEW ALTERNATIVE INCA TRAIL -LLACTAPATA -MACHU PICCHU

In 2003 a group of American explorers, who were researching notes from Hiram Bingham´s Lost City of the Incas, came to Llactapata to unearth what they suspected was another network of ceremonial and agricultural sites high above the Urubamba river, just a stones throw from Machu Picchu.

Using modern methods such as GPS, aerial photography and topographic maps, the exploration team, backed by the Royal Geographic Society in London, combined technology with some good old fashioned manual graft, hacking their way through dense cloud forest to discover what Bingham had not been able to prove, the existence of walls, plazas and more than 80 buildings similar in layout, to the sun temple of Coricancha.

Thanks to the efforts of the Thomson-Ziegler Andean Research Expedition, we have been able to open up the Inca trail from Lucmabamba to Llactapata. This two day, one night trek involves camping in Llactapata overlooking Machu Picchu.

The trip is called: Inca Trail to LLactapata -Machu Picchu

Here are some videos which Anthony, a very amiable tourist from Indonesia, has shared with
us following his hike to Machu Picchu, via Llactapata.

If you want to feel like an adventurer in search of new Inca routes, this long trek is the best option, since it offers Inca ruins in the same state as they were found many years ago.The Inca Trail is still relatively unfrequented and your adventure will include penetrating the Peruvian jungle, surrounded by orchids and brooks.

Inka jungle trail-inka jungle trek -hike to Machu Picchu

Everybody knows that Machu Picchu is the place to visit if you come to Peru. However, the classic Inka trail is very often overbooked in advance and full until September. Do not worry! PIE PERU offers you a great alternative route to get to Machu Picchu: the Inka Jungle, a new route from the jungle´s edge in the Cusco region, which lasts 4 days and 3 nights.

Moreover, instead of just hiking, this tour includes biking downhill from the mountains all the way to the green valley below, surrounded all the while by beautiful landscapes.

By taking on the Inka jungle and Inca Trail trek, you will discover the close proximity between nature, adventure and adrenaline.

IS IT FOR ME?
This is not only an alternative Inca Trail, it is the most original and exclusive, following paths only recently discovered, as well as variety. It is suitable for anyone with a sense of adventure, curiosity, a little spare energy and no visible signs of vertigo!

SUMMARY

The Tropical Inca Trail is a new route offered exclusively by PIE, which involves biking, walking and just being. Our multiple terrain trip, includes recently discovered real Inca paths, visited only by our clients, archaeological ruins, an 80km bike downhill through the mountains from Abra Malaga to the green valleys below and the jungle base of Santa Maria. The four day, three night trip ends with a dawn view of the valleys below from Machu Picchu.
